The necropolis of Hammamet in Tunisia is the biggest roman necropolis ever discovered in Africa. The site has been incredibly preserved for almost 2000 years. A team led by Aïcha ben Abed and Marc Griesheimer has a few months left to save this city of the dead before the construction of a luxury hotel swallows it. The preservation of the site is unique as it escaped plundering and contains a lot of funeral material in very good condition. This part of the cemetery concealed almost 2000 tombs. The archaeological digs will help us question the origins of this part of the roman population living the 2nd century AD.
