At the heart of the River Chao Phraya delta lies Thailand’s expanding capital, Bangkok, with, strictly speaking, a density of nearly 13% of the country’s population, and nearly a quarter of it in its urban area. A city notably marked over the past 20 years by the phenomenon of Manhattanization, a veritable explosion in the number of skyscrapers. The Maha Nakhon tower, at 315 meters, is one of its most recent hyper-stylised symbols. A city which has become an important economic and financial centre in South-East Asia, where the skyline depicts power and the rooftops have been adapted for the comfort and enjoyment of the wealthy and of foreign tourists. But Bangkok is also one of the world’s great Buddhist capitals, with nearly 95% of the population practising Buddhism, recognised as the country’s official religion… A Buddhism which is inscribed in the  spiritual horizon of the city, where the temple roofs are its most remarkable features….
