SYNOPSIS
What will become of Laplanders in the European age ?
Lapland covers a vast territory at the crossraods of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. 50,000 Laplanders live on this wild land, half of them in Sweden. Though they have ancient traditions, they have often been considered as outcasts or emigrants. Torn between the preservation of their traditions and having their place in the modern world, they are now fighting to be heard.
We will follow Maria Rensberg, a 19 year old girl actively involved in her nation's future. Her family has been breeding reindeers for several generations. This law student has decided to take up her father's farm, a very unusual choice, for reindeer breeding is by tradition a man's job.
Why did she deliberately make such a choice ? What are her hopes and fears for the future ? In this wild landscape of ice and tundra, we will share her and her family's everyday life, between tradition and modernity.
